Matt Goldberg, Joshua Gruber, and I were interested in how popular music changes over time. In late 2021, when we did this project, we felt that popular music had changed significantly even over the past few years. We decided to perform a feature analysis of the songs on each of the Billboard Year-End lists from 2018-2020 to see if there were any noticeable changes, and then compare this analysis to our understanding of pop music.
